acoustic guitar sounds tinny

New to recording. Have a Yamaha 16-track DAW. Going direct with acoustic guitar. Strumming sounds tinny- meaning thin. Want more umph. Tried EQ, but with minimal results.

Any suggestions?

DI is almost never a good way to record acoustic guitar. And if you do, either it better be covered up by FX in the mix, or it better be one hell of a guitar with a cutting edge pickup system. I don't know what kind of guitar/pickup system you're using, but if you're not prepared to spend thousands to get good sound, get a mic.-Richie

Recording acoustic guitar is one of THE most discussed topics on this BBS. I suggest you do a bit of searching on the forum. As Richard said, it's very, very difficult to get a decent sound just from a acoustic pickup, unless it's a real expensive beast you're playing. Lots of people record with mics AND pickup and add some of the pickup sound to the mic sound however, depending on what they're after.

Read, read, read.

Definitely use a mic (or two). Especially straight to digital, through the Yamaha's onboard A-D converters.
