My CD, such as it is.

All right, I guess that this is the place for this. We had a good space to record, but not too many good mics. The tracking was done on ADAT's, and we mixed with Sound Forge. I am the guy playing the lead stuff, which was all electric mandolin.

I am determined to do a better job on the next one, which we are going to start in a couple of weeks.

studioviols is on a distinguished road
A wee listen to the Hags upon the Churn :
----------------------------------------------------------

IMHO, when electrifying this genre, and rocking the old celtics, it is very, very easy to be tacky as hell.

You have done this very tastefully. The forms, you stick very close to the forms and that's important here IMHO.

I especially like the crisp and economical articulation of the rythm guitar here.

The bass is very well done. IMHO, the mando is the lead it should be centered ... 'more of the time'.

Some dynamic 'mixing' or 'creative panning' between the drums and the mando might be in order.

MC Gitarz is gonna love this stuff !

------------------------------------------------

Congress Reel :

As soon as the bass started, I had to giggle, I dunno why.

It's a bit like 'War' doing this cover ? It's almost a hint of funk in the old leperachaun.

I like the mando centered, but I think we should comprimise, and have it a bit off center most of the time, it is a startlingly brilliant little instrument. And you've mixed it very nicely, it's sweet, a touch of brilliance, but never piercing or bothersome.

If it were a guitar, I'd say it is sonically very close to what we might expect from a gibson Les Paul.

And now I'm hearing the rythm mando off to right, I'd like to move them a bit closer together, seperation is good, but more blend is better here, IMHO, at least some of the time perhaps we shouldn't be able to tell the two apart. And I'm sure you will find lots of things like this as you and your ensemble mature.

Yeah, shit get fawnky, this is a cool way to rock the celtics, I love it.

Hope I can jam with you sometime.

All still very, very tasteful, and respectful for the mother root of all of this.

At 2:50, things are getting very, very sweet, very nice.

Oh my, cello would sound so beautiful moaning about in all of this. The fog up on the top of the misty moors.

Again, you've respected the head here, the rythm guitar setting is perfect for this, sounds very much like an autoharp ...

---------------------------------------------

I look forward to listening to more.

Thanks for the kind words, Patrick. We are trying to get off the ground. and play enough gigs to get some noteriety.

The recording project is our next big thing. I have a Yamaha AW4416 and I am trying to learn my way around it.

We didn't do anything very creative with panning. It was a learning experience, though.

Merry Christmas!

I gave Hag at the Churn a go 'round.

It's not my current taste in music, but I remember listening to Black47 or some college band back in the day with a similar approach.

Now, nice instrumentation. You guys can play. That's a serious PLUS. The mix isn't bad either. Could compress and raise the lead guitar a little more without invading the other instruments. It sounded balanced overall, so one or all of you know how to record already and mixing is second hat...

The website is cool too, I design similar 'basic' sites. There's no need for java and intricate artwork buttons, etc. Basic, gimme what I want (MP3s in this case) and leave me alone! Logo works well too.

Best of luck!
