Question Headphones Under $75?

Greetings all..

Been away for 8 months and am finally getting back into home recording. Have some cash earmarked for new headphones and wanted opinions from folks on quality headphones under $75.

Most of the time, they will be used in the studio for recording, but I will occasionally use them for *gasp* mixing roughs.

Anyone have good experiences with headphones under $75?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

DarkFriend

If you could increase your budget to around $100-$125, you'd have a lot more options.

Hey DarkFriend !!

grinder is absolutely right but... if you can budget around U$ 89 you can get a wonderful Sennheiser HD 25-SP.

Headphone.com describes it like this:

"If you need headphones for light mixing in live settings or a small studio, the Sennheiser HD 25-SP are for you. They're compact, sealed headphones that present a forward sound, with very deep, thick bass and decent highs. They offer more punch than other sub-$100 cans but trail other contenders such as the HD280 Pro in terms of natural sound. They're lightweight, fairly comfortable, and portable-friendly. Since they're easy to drive, they work well for many applications. While they aren't quite as comforatble as the EH2200, they do provide a degree more isolation from outside noise.
The HD 25-SP are lightweight and slim. They have small earpieces with cushy earcups that sit on your ears. The earpeices rotate 360 degrees—convenient if you need to lay the HD 25 down flat. They have an adjustable, flexible, plastic headband. The cord connects to both of the earpeices and comes terminated to a mini (a 1/4-inch adapter is included)."

Take a look at Head-fi . It's a very special community specialised in HeadPhone listening. If you don't know then (us...) you gonna be surprised how deep headphone listening can go...And sorry for your wallet.

Best

Ari

EDIT: By the way DarkFriend, I own one and love it.

Head phones are a personal thing, you need to live with 'em for a little bit.Buy 4-5 differant pairs on a credit card, put 'em through the paces, keep the set you like the best and take the rest back.

for tracking

get the MoreMes from Harvey Gerst. They are cheap, durable, and damn good for the little money.

I use mine strickly for tracking.. No mixing, mastering etc.

I should have bought more that 3 pairs.

Just do a search in here for moreme, or the microphone forum.

Oh, get the extension cables also if he still has them.

However, I didn't compare the specs of the 7506's and the V6's

I use both.

if its late and i don't feel like turning up the monitors, i'll pull these or my trusty ole akg 240's and start a simple headphone mix, then really mix the song later

I always have had the problem of not being able to get it loud enough for my performers, granted I have a cheap headphone amp, but Aiwa $20 Best Buy specials aren't helping, I don't care about clarity, I just want them loud, I'm not mixing with them, I just need to get the point across to the musicians, do you think the extreme isolations will help with that?? It needs to be able to get loud enough to get the drummer to shut up if I want him to, cause you KNOW drummers can never have it loud enough especialy when they've never been in a studio before. Ever heard this? "Hey lets open that high hat like 6 inches, that'll sound REALLY good":-) I also don't want to spend insane amounts of money for these other people to listen to, I don't have the most seasoned clients. Any suggestions?? Thanks guys

Pat
