over compression and other stuff

I've spent most of the day listening to cds through my monitors.Man, the over compression of modern music is so much more evident.I threw in the Puddle Of Mudd cd and it sucks. Not that I don't like the band, cause I do.This cd is so compressed that my meters hardly move.Threw in some Dave Mathews, how refreshing, so much going on the mix and everything is crystal clear. One question, in But Anyway, by Blues Traveler, is the high hat stereo miced or is that the over heads picking it up.Sounds pretty cool.I'm really loving my new Yorkvilles, what a whole new world.I'm gonna burn my old moitors. That's my rant for the day.Peace and happy holidays, Grinder

You may not want to burn the old monitors just yet. You may want to keep them around, that way you can listen to your mix through different speakers to get different perspectives on how the mix will translate.

I was just joking about burning them. The friend I borrowed them from might get a little pissed if I did. Then using his '58 Les Paul would be out of the question. The Samsons are pretty descent for the $189 or so that he paid.
