minidisk- midi- zoom drum machine

I have a sony mdm minidisk recorder and a zoom 234 drum machine, and I know that they both are midi capable, but I know nothing about midi or where to get started. Instead of recording my drum tracks to two stereo tracks, I would like to get them to go in sync with the recorder at mix down and use those two tracks for something else. Can I do this? Both machines midi instructions seem to be written in another language to me. Can any one get me started?
