I can't seem to get any sound when try to do midi. I checked my connections: joystick to keyboard. In midi jack is in the midi out of keyboard, out midi jack is in the in of keyboard. I also tried it on a reeware program where I did get some sound. The sound card I am using right now is a SoundMax integrated in my emachines. I am expecting my Turtle Beach card to come in anyday now. II am using Cake Walk Music Creator Pro for my software. Would appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance.

Okay.... do you know if your soundcard has some built in sounds on it? Or would you like to use the keyboard-sounds?

This is what I've tried so far:
To tell if you have SoundMax WDM drivers installed I follow the steps below: Start - Settings - Control Panel - Open Systems - Select Hardware tab - Click on Device Manager - expand Sound, Video and game controllers - double click the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio I Click the driver tab If the version starts with 5.12.1. xxxx, then the driver is WDM. And it said that. ******************************************** To check whether you have SoundMAX midi I follow these steps: Start - Settings - Control Panel - Open the - Open the "Sounds and Multimedia" Properties - Click the Audio tab - Under the Midi Music Playback check whether "SoundMAX WDM MIDI" is in the drop down list. It wasn't in the drop down list. ========================================== Well I went to the SoundMax site and this is what I found out: #32 and 33 from FAQ Section 32 Why doesn't my MIDI port work? Musicians sometimes use the MIDI port connector on some computers to connect to an external musical instrument. SoundMAX does not support the MIDI port of computers. In many cases, because the MIDI synthesizer runs on the computer's main processor, there can be a short delay between when a MIDI instrument (that is connected to the computer) plays a note and when that note plays out the speakers. On some computers, SoundMAX includes a MIDI synthesizer (which simulates musical instruments) which can play MIDI files. Some games and web pages create audio sounds using the MIDI synthesizer. back to top 33 Why is there a 1/4 second delay when using external MIDI devices? In many cases, because the MIDI synthesizer runs on the computer's main processor, there can be a short delay between when a MIDI instrument (that is connected to the computer) plays a note and when that note plays out the speakers. ============================================== I guess I will have to wait for my TurtleBeach Sound Card to get here.

And you know that if you connect the keyboard MIDI in and out to the PCs MIDI in and out, the actual sound will come from the keyboard?
What MIDI devices do you use on the PC? The MPU-401?

Yes, I know that and that's what I'm not getting. (any Sound either from the card or the keyboard.)
When I run my Cakewalk software (MIDI Devices) it says MPU-401 on the inputs side and then on the output side it says MPU-401 on the top and Microsoft MIDI Mapper below it. I am using a YAMAHA SY22 Synth.

Strange. It should work if you have set the channels on the track right.
When you open Music Creator, there is a little icon appearing someplace near the clock. This should light up when Cakewalk recieves and sends MIDI data. Can you see any activity at all?

I see a little keyboard icon by my clock. It is not doing anything. What should it be doing?

The left red "light" should light up when Cakewalk recieves MIDI-data. The red light should light up when Cakewalk sends MIDI-data.

Yes, if your keyboard is set to "Local Off", you should now hear sounds.

Boy...I fill stupid! Anyways this is what I did in case someone get's into the same situation:
I went into Start> control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio Tab>MIDI Music Playback>Located Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth>Apply>OK. Then went back to Cakewalk to Options/Audio>Use MME Drivers>OK>Exit and restart Music Creator. Opened up Music Creator went back to Options>MIDI Devices... On outputs I hilighted Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and put it to the top. I have sound....YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! Now I notice a signifigant lag time...that of course will be another issue. And finally, my Santa Cruz card came in today so let's see what happens now?

But that means that the sound you're hearing is that crappy Microsoft GS synth... Wouldn't you rather use the sounds on your keyboard.

Yes, yes...I know. I needed to get some kind of sound first either sound card or synth just to see if this thing was working. I installed my Santa Cruz card and didn't have half of the headache getting this thing to work or maybe it's because I already went through all that with the last card. My main intention is to run a bunch of my music that I already have save in my workstaion separate all 16 tracks through cakewalk and edit here needed.
