Q10 problems

Lately, I've been having problems with my Aardvark Q10. After months of glitch free operation, Q10 suddenly started disappearing after turning my computer off and rebooting the next day. It is still there in the system devices, but I'm unable to get the Q10 control panel up on my desktop after double clicking on the icon. Therefore, I'm unable to record or playback in S3. In fact S3 doesn't recognize it at all. For a few days, I could get Q10 back by reinstalling the 7.04 patch, but that stopped working for me the last few days. I have to do a clean uninstall and reinstall to get Q10 back. I consulted with an Aardvark tech, and he suggested I do a system restore which I tried with no success. Then he suggested I unplug my USB devices which I did, and the first time I tried it, it worked. But, the next time I turned my computer off, Q10 didn't work. So, I'm frustrated. Has anyone out there had this problem before? Any suggestions? I appreciate any help you can give me.
Lynn

I had a similar problem with a CD-Burner. Only thing that finally fixed it for me was installing a new motherboard.

Have you tried swapping the card to a different PCI slot? I would start there, if you haven't already.

OK - something has to have changed in your PC's configuration. Stuff like this either works or it doesn't - unless it is a hardware fault, then if the Q10 worked before properly you must have changed something which is now conflicting with it.

What have you added, changed, tweaked or installed lately? Windows updates? Other plug-ins?

If you have enough disk space, install a quick bodgy copy of a clean operating system and see what the Q10 does in that install. If it works properly, you have confirmed that the hardware is functioning correctly and that the problem you are having is a software conflict of some description.

Ciao,

Q.

I'm betting on Windows Updates. Most people don't even realise they have it on or what it's doing (Wife, I'm not accusing you for this), but it's a possibility.

Q10 problem

Moskus, I did do a windows update some weeks ago. How do I know if this is the problem, and how do I undo it?

You can check the installation log if you open up Windows Update. Find the Windows Update number (QXXXXXXXX). Then you can read about it (what does it do?) and then decide if it's necessary. If it's not, just go to Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel, and look at the bottom for Windows Update QXXXXXXX.

Q10

Moskus, I took your suggestion and removed all the files associated with the windows upgrade. Doing that led me to believe that Adobe reader 6.0 may also have been the culprit, since it was the last program that I downloaded. Removing that restored Q10, however, I haven't shut my computer off yet, so I don't know if it'll come back when I reboot. So, stay tuned. I'll let you know what happened during the next day or two. Thanks for your time.

Q10

FYI, the problems that I had with Q10 seem to have gone away after I deleted the windowsxp upgrades. All seems to be working well, now. Thanks for the advice! Just in case anyone else is having problems with their sound card or musical software, this may be the problem. Happy recording.
