Sup Fam

Long time no see. Hope things are good with ya'llz.

As for me. I've moved again. haven't been doing to much on the beat making tip. All my stuff is in storage mostly cuz having it where lm staying right now would be a bit chancey. Obviously i got my PC out as i found my kinda irritable having zero access to my music.
Lately i've been working on my sample chopping. i may get a small midi controller and make some beat sketches with my 43 ms latency SB Live! and some VSTi's.

If you posted stuff i'll do my best to check it out. BTW i'm on dial up so im only gonna be able to really peep your stuff if its available for DL. My connection streams like garbage.

Yo Kev, sorry i missed your IM. I was away from the computer at the time.

Welcome back man.

I'm trying to get into chopping too. Any advice? What are you using to chop and sequence with?

I've been messing with Acid and Recycle and even doing some manual chopping with Sound Forge. I'm still lost though. I must be doing something wrong.

Sup man

I'm prolly not the best guy to take tips from, cuz i'm BRAND new to this and i'm more than likely doing it the hard way (knowing me)

but so far i've tried loading a sample in to an editor and slicing certain parts out. then loading them into Battery and triggering them sort of like with an MPC which would prolly work if i learn to slice the samples properly.

Second i tried trimming out parts of a song to do a Kanye West type thing where you dont do much outside of adding drums to a part with cubase. almost never comes out smooth for me. Again i think its cuz of the way i'm cutting my samples. I'm not familiar at all with Acid. its probably easier than with cubase.

Anyone esle have tips?

This the way I'm trying to do it and I'm having the exact same problem, not knowing where to slice them.

Only advice I got was to chop the sample on a downbeat or chord and don't let the chopped section be longer than 1 to 2 seconds.

It's funny, most producers start with sampling and move on to composing. We started with composing and now can't figure out sampling. LOL.

Unhappy Update

Well...I went out and bought an M-Audio Radium 49 midi controller. But the playback latency with the SB Live! is killing me. I heard of this site for this third party company for SB drivers called kx audio and tried to install it only to find out that they dont support the SB Live card that are put into Dell PCs. Damn! though i had my temporary pacifier worked out, but i'm still at it.

Re: Update

Well the Radium stopped working properly about 2 days after my last post so i took it back before my 14 day return period was up.

i did however get to bang out 2 new beats. One of them can be found here

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/sho...hreadid=113205

Since then i have done a couple beats with note by note mouse clicking. I'll prolly post something else later this week or next.

Funny thing to support the "you dont need alot of equipment theory" it seems the fact that im working with alot less than i'm used to, I'm using alot of my own effects as alot lot of the patches aren't super souped as with my triton or xv. so in a since its alot more "ME". Anyway check out my post in the Mp3 Clinic

Peace Fam
