I have an old teac 4 track reel to reel that was given to me recently . I put it in the shop to have it tuned up. I can lay one track down but cant figure out how to lay another down while listening to the previous on headphones . Would some one please help me?

Your monitor switches will let you hear either the source (what you are recording) or the tape (what you have already recorded) for each track. The recording mode switch lets you record on the track you choose to record on. If the mode switch is on when you push the red record button at the same time you push the play button, you will record the source. The mic/line knobs let you adjust the recording level (before you start recording), and the output knobs let you adjust the output to your board or amp. You need to have the input and output cables plugged into the correct jacks on the front (mic) or rear (line). Leave the simul-sync switches on normal until you get the basic recording down. Hope this helps. Give it a try and get back if you have problems.

The "4 Track" you have may be a stereo two track! If it does not have "Simul-sync" you probably wont be able to record multi-track information.

(A stereo reel to reel has 4 tracks, but two of them are only available by flipping over the tape. Just like a cassette...)

If you have a model 3340 or 3440 it will be a true 4 track with "simul-sync".

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

RIGHT on ...I just forgot the numbers...it's been 20 years or so since I played with those old toys.
