Thumbs up

alright. im moving to austin in a couple months and so im redoing my setup. Im pretty set on either Fostex E16, or tascam MSR16. I know the limitations of those both being 1/2" so im open to thoughts on the 1" machines. Ive seen a 1" tascam MS-16 go for $1500 a while back. and i dont know whether to use around $1000 to get a 1/2" or to allocate $2000 for a 1" machine. tricky business. i have other wants. wouldnt mind the Fostex G24 - 1" recorder. but i dont have the $$$!!!

I had great fun with the Tascam TSR-8. 8 tracks on 1/2". I would be a bit leary of 16 tracks on 1/2" though. I've never tried the 1" Tascam products.

1" tape is going to be expensive (About twice the price)..... Is the quality that much better? 30 minutes recording time for $80-$100? Just food fo thought.

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

Question

is the quality better? the frequency response is 40Hz~18000Khz on the 1/2" machines.. and i know not all 1" get up to 20000Khz.

Not to mention the rather significant amount of more head-room with wider tape.

I happen to own an MSR-16 that I'm quite fond of. It sounds great. I haven't had any problems with it at all. It's a great machine!
