Program locked up

Hello,

Something tells me that my forgetting to "save session" while I worked has caused the program to hang.

I would really like to save this work if I can. I'm running XP so I went to my C drive temp folder and there was a pretty large CEP file there dated currently. Is this my "save" data? Can I purge it while the program is locked?

I don't understand this temp folder....There were several CEP files there most were 0 kb but one from July was over a gig. Why do these temp files hang out in this folder indefinately? Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,
Rusty K

That temp folder is SUPPOSED to clear itself out after every session. But if one hangs up, you'll get stuff like this. My experience has been that the huge temp file (it IS your lost session, btw) is useless for anybody who's not a cep programmer. I've tried to access those on lost sessions before, but the way CEP actually stores data (in a kind of random fashion) means that if you could successfully load that info, it still won't play back right...like, right in the middle of a guitar track, you'll get a background vocal...PLAYING BACKWARDS...

This happens when the program locks up WHILE CEP is saving it in the background. Most sessions, as we all know, come back...but if one happens to crash WHILE cep is backing itself up, it's gone.

I saw a huge thread about this on the old Syntrillium site once, and this poor SOB (obviously, some kind of a computer guru, b/c he was about ten billion times more versed than most of the support staff) tried for about 3 months before he finally gave up. What I learned from that thread was

1. Give up earlier; and
2. Ditch all the temp files.

Wish I was more help,
Chris

chrisharris,

Thanks for your response. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. As it turns out I got impatient and closed the program anyway. Since I had most of my tracks locked I didn't loose much but I haven't had time to check the mix completely. If the track is locked are my volumn and pan setting saved/locked as well?

So is it's ok to delete CEP items in this temp folder, especially those dated in the past? I might add that this temp folder is not in my CEP program folder, it's the main temp folder for my C drive XP....just so I'm not confusing anyone? I couldn't find any temp folder in the program folder.

Yeah, I know the folder you're talking about. If you read in the CEP help files, it'll actually tell you that there's not supposed to be anything left in the temp files once a session closes. That's why I delete those from time to time. I'm like you, I get a lot that don't have any size whatsoever, with names like... Grff45348~Reverb ... lol. I have no idea when or how they're created, but I've never run into a problem deleting them.

Oh, and as far as the other question. On locked tracks, I can still adjust the volume and panning as long as it's for the entire track...but I don't think you can increase and decrease the volume only in places ON the track with it locked...like with enveloping the little dots...I don't think so, anyway.

re-reading your question...no, I don't think the volume and pan settings are saved with the locked track...that's a session file.
