new source mag - beat article

fyi - their was an interesting snippet in the dec source - the one with the lox on the cover - about putting together a studio and then it showed a bunch of producers and what gear they use. nothing substantial - but it was interesting to see what artist use what weapon of choice. also interesting to see which peice of gear was more common, software, ect...........

thought i might share.......

evil dee

wat the mic evil dee was listed in his set ups.

i'm interested to know wether the blackmoon album was done on the setup he listed, especially seeing as he used the preamps in the vs recorders and no other outboard gear.

am i the only one thats thinks that most of the instructions given to people recording hip-hop regarding gear selection is a)giving by a rock head on the assumption that because ur rapping vocals dont mean shit b) by hip-hop heads who've only used the gear that they are endorising.

i just find it hard to believe i can get vocals to sit in the mix like an eminem track or gangstarr track by pluging in an sm58 into any old 8 track.

a) (here at least) sometimes, but the process is the same

b) not really

". . .sit in the mix w/58-8track. . ." You got it!
