heathkit/zenith active audio processor AD-1706

I found this in the attic, it was hand built by an engineer we used to know. It's got an expander(-4db to +4db) and a noise reducer, it's a model AD-1706, can I run a mic preamp through it and will it benefit me at all? It also has a high filter, if anyone knows anything?
