02r users... I need advice.

02r users tell me what you are using to automate and sync to your recorder (especially the hd24). Automation is more important in this question. I know that Lucid GenX or whatever is a good clock. But will it give me automation too?

Thanks,
Chris

What type of automation are you expecting? The only real communication between a mixer and HDR will usually be SMPTE Time Code and Transport Control. Usually a MIDI cable will do both and in some instances you use a seperate 1/4" cable for the SMPTE. Sometimes you can also arm tracks for recording from the mixer.

None of these are really considered 'automation' just remote control. You could use the SMPTE signal from the HDR to call up different scenes on the mixer and that could be considered automation.

I think I'm right on this but.......yea. The 02r needs to see time code to know where it is during automation (you probably know this). It looks like MIDI time code is your only option here and I think the 02r has a MTC input. If the HD24 has SMPTE out then you can use that too. Do you know how to use the automix on the 02r? cuz that's a totally different question.

A word clock will just get your digital audio to run in sync, it's a good idea but won't do anything with time code.

Good luck
