A few questions about the 1266;

1. When recording multiple tracks, can you assign different effetcs to the various inputs? In other words, a stereo guitar part with different amp models as well as a vocal part through a microphone.

2. Do either of you use the USB connection? If so, can you back up raw, unmixed tracks this way as well as mixed down material? Does the USB allow transfer the other way so I can take tracks from a CD and load them into 2 tracks and play around with them?

3. If you use the CD burner, the same question - can you back-up raw data so you could go back later and remix?

4. How are the effects? I am interested in something simple to get my ideas down w/o a lot of hassle, so the guitar effects are key.

1. When recording multiple tracks, can you assign different effetcs to the various inputs? In other words, a stereo guitar part with different amp models as well as a vocal part through a microphone.

You can record up to 6 tracks simultaneously, but I'm a little unclear on using multiple insert effects. I think you can change an insert effect on a recorded track, but then you have to bounce the track to make it permanent.

Yes. You can download an audio file manager program from Zoom's web site. Using this program, you can convert tracks to wav or aiff files. You can also convert a wav or aiff file to a v-take. With the USB connection, the zoom appears as another drive on you computer, you can copy files back and forth. You can also copy midi files from your hard drive the zoom.

I've heard a lot of people say the effects are a little over the top, but they can edited to suit your tastes.

You can only run 1 amp simulator at a time.Only 1 reverb and 1 delay/chorus can be assigned when tracking or playback.If you want two differant reverbs on a single track, you can record with one reverb assigned to input and then assign the second reverb and bounce to another track.
When recording more than 2 tracks at a time, amp simulators and mic/line algorithms aren't available.
The efx are o.k., there is some tweakability but, not as much as I'd like.Some of the amp sims sound descent, as far as amp sims go.
There is a big learning curve to this machine.Once you put in alot of time reading the manual and figuring things out, it's not too bad to navigate.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice about my recorder. I have a Zoom MRS -1266CD. When I turn it on, I only get a solid red light for the HDD indicator & a display light but nothing comes up in the display. I tried to hold down the clear key while powering on but this changes nothing.The manual says to do this in hope of performing a basic maintenance. I've had this unit for 5 years with no problems until now.
