I am only interested in recording a couple of acoustic guitars and a couple of vocal tracks on my songs. I am using a very simple mixer (no tweaking, no effects, 4 channels input and one output) this mixer is hocked up to my computer then I modify the mix using Cool Edit pro.
I need to get modify the different tracks before they’re mixed on my pc (cause I won’t be able to edit tracks separately by then). For e.g. I want the guitar track to sound different than the vocal track. So Do I need a mixer to do that? Or is it possible by cool edit? If yes, is Mackie 1202-VLZ pro the best option? Mackie CFX12? Or? |

I haven't used a mixer since I switched over to the computer in 2001. I record one track at a time into the multitracker in CEP 2.1 (or1.2a, depending on how I feel)...then, yeah....tweak each track to your heart's content in the multitrack session BEFORE you mixdown.
CEP's a lot more than a wave editor. I've recorded up to 30 "analog" tracks in one tune...never had any need for more up to this point. BTW - You didn't mention which version of CEP you're using....obviously, you have to have a multitracking version. Is this close to what you were asking? |

Record each instrument in different tracks (Go to multitrack view) Now you can mix, add effects, edit and do all stuff in CEP. You dont have to buy a mixer for this, with that money you can get a good soundcard, that is more important than a mixer
