I have an MRS4 but I haven't used it since I upgraded to the MRS 1266.

Ask your questions, if I can answer I will.

WIth the MRS-4, what inputs does it have? I am especially interested in recording the following two types of things;

1. A stereo guitar part with amp modelling, different models if possible, on both channels.

2. Guitar and vocals at the same time.

Also, does the unit have a USB port or is a card reader required? How good are the effects?

Thanks,

Bruce

The unit has 2 1/4" unbalanced inputs. No XLR input, but you can use a dynamic mic with a 1/4" plug on one end of the cable.

There are also 2 auxilliary inputs. You can't record using these inputs, but you can connect a rhythm machine so you can add drum/bass without using any tracks.

It doesn't have amp modelling, you would have to use an external unit.

You can record two tracks simultaneously (guitar/vocal or whatever).

There is no USB port. The unit records to smartmedia cards. You can use a card reader on your computer and download software from Zoom's website to convert recorded takes to wav files. The sampling frequency is only 32Khz.

Send/Return effects include various reverb and chorus effects. How good are they? That is in the ear of the beholder, but keep in mind this is a low end recorder. It is very useful as a scratchpad, especially as it runs on batteries, but you won't be using it to record the next hit CD.

Hope that helps.
