getting the most out of bass and bds

i've been trying to work on my basses recently, cause i thought it sounded crappy when i played it in cars. i mean, it's ok, but not what i want. thing is, i got those long, hanging bass drums that really sound good usually. but whenever i wanna raise it in my mix, it always starts sounding less 'round' and maybe taking over every other sound. i know i probably gotta use compressors on this one. i tried a few configurations, but i still can't get the depth i want. so, what would your idea be? got any good tricks?

If it's too high in the mix, lower it.

If it gets lost, compress it, fast attack/release.

Cut the mud (200 Hz up), boost a little 60Hz, 80Hz, 1k, 3k, etc.

Try a cut/lowpass at 3k, 1k, 200Hz, etc.

Or Mult it, highpass one and add overdrive/distortion.

Maybe Layer another sample, try a small amount of MaxxBass, etc.

What do you mean by depth?

depth - i meant i want to lower the pitch of my bd to F (cause the song is in F and the bass drum key is A), but whenever i do it, it always gets eaten up by everything else on the mix. so i raise the bass drum track's volume, but then it starts buzzin in the speakers (and i don't want that - i want to make it sound round and smooth. if you wanna hear what i mean, listen the difference between sawtooth and square wave shapes. i want it to sound more like the square.

Now I see, the kick turned flabby when you detuned it.

In that case, layer another kick for attack, and try to balance the two.

If you're still bothered by the low end on the detuned kick, then try rolling off below 30-40Hz (yes, yes, I know).

If that doesn't work, consider just using another kick.
