Which parts do u record in stereo???

Hi y'all, I have a major question about recording.

I have the Tascam 788 and I was wondering, for better sounding recordings, do you guys record all your instruments, including vocals, in stereo? What about lead and rhythm guitar? Any tips would be of major help. Thanks

PS, Could someone also explain the whole Submix thing to me, as I haven't a clue.

This all depends .

you can record instruments mono and pan them to taste.
If you are using something like software or softsynth programs, I would pan and level them in the puter and run those stereo out into the 788 and take 2 channels on the 788 and pan them hard left and hard right.
Lead and Rythm guitar can be done in mono on seperate channels and panned and leveled.

there are many approaches to this, but to answer your question, I guess the main trick is not to mix everything you have recording mono or straight up. Pan stuff around for taste.

Vocals are usually recorded in mono using more than 1 take then panned.

go over to the mixing forum and search for a post on mixing. Blue Bear has a good article on this.
