Some of my tracks (electronic stuff)

Hey Guys/Gals

I'm a new poster to this forum, thought i'de let you guys listen to some of my stuff. The genre is pretty much all electronic stuff, my music varies with my mood. All tracks are original, with nothing sampled (except maybe a drum beat or 2). Only sofware i use is PROTOOLS LE to record and master the tracks, i dont really believe in software synths, i like using actual equipment. MY equipment varies from korg synths, dr.groove drum machines, emu sound modules, turntablizm, and such. Lemme know what you guys think, thanx

hey man --

wassup? I agree with you: outboard gear rocks!

I just listend to your tracks.
BTW: this might not be the perfect forum for a review of electronica, since most people on this board are more into "classical" music genres ... I wish there'd be more guys like you, though! Here are some random comments:

"In the Making": Great crunchy synths and pads! The main lead sounds very granular, which is great! I like that a lot. The break at 0:44 sounds odd, though. I'd re-do that. The drumline could have a stronger presence and needs some more variety. That applies to all of your tracks. Also, check out more compression on the drumline (all tracks). I don't dig the choice of the high hat (or whatever that is). Sounds very "plastic". The rest is great!

"Mel": That track would benefit a lot from vocals! Like a sexy female voice or so .... ;-)

"Get the Groove up": nice groove; good arrangement of the elements, but it lacks a bit "diversity" and becomes a bit boring after a while. You might need some more breaks and different sounds IMHO.

"Track 4": nice jungly drumline, even though I don' like the flanger on the drumline too much. The synth at 0:33 sounds a bit cheesy, though.

"Track 5": (not my thing) Is that the same synth pad like in the track before?

"Untitled": similar to the above in style, but much more interesting to listen to. Sounds good! The mellow strings blend in nicely. Good choice of sounds.

Overall, I must say, you have a lot of talent! The mixes in general are very good (level, panning, etc), not much to criticize here :-) even though the levels of the individual songs vary dramatically. The only things that strikes me is that all songs seems to be half-finished only. Try polishing them up, spend a few mor weeks on them, its worth it. Here's a little trick to get better much faster: start a project, no matter what it is and finish it in one run. Doesn't matter if you notice after a while that you don't like the track too much. If you keep finishing your projects, you'll be able to work much faster after a while. That will pay off when you have a "hit" track, coz you will be able to finish it in one piece and will have a nice flow.

I think you need a wider stereo field, as I like to listen to this kinda stuff on headphones. More ear candy too. I think this is a great start, but needs a tad more on top of it to finish it out, and that will help with the repetition. If you're going more for a trance, then I suppose repeat all you want!!

nice sounds and pretty good layering. and good grooves. I noticed that you tend to lay a foundation rythymn and then weave a subdominant rythym over it on most of them. If you could add another dominant counterythym playing against the primary it would widen the dimension quite a bit and give a big foundation for the spicy stuff like the scratching or vocal.
