OT Goldwave info

There seems to be scant information on any discussion forums for Goldwave. Does anyone have a lead on such a forum in here or would there be interest in adding one?

I have done various search techniques plus asked at the newsgroup rec.audio.pro.

Still have found nothing.

The questions I have would be for supplying specific filtering techniques to prerecorded material on LP phonograph records.

My main question is how to get specific artifacts like needle noise out of LP recordings that are closer to surface noise than a noticeable spike from clicks and pops. I have only done a few edits so far and cannot pick out a waveform that is not a part of the voice... or so close as to make it hard to distinguish.


How can the zoom feature be used effectively for this? Some experimentation left me confused as to what I was seeing on the wave form... the image was too large.

Yeah I lived in Madison for a year 70-71ish. Loved the people and the town. Met my first wife there. Finally found out what yellow snow was but the cold was a bit brutal for a Texan.

I use the clipboard noise reduction function mostly. It's most important to find a space where it's strictly maching noise usually at the beginning or end of the piece but you can zoom in if needs be. You have to be very careful cause noise reduction will play hell with some of the high stuff like cymbals etc.. It makes old tapes and records much more enjoyable to listen to for my taste though.

The best way to archive is to transfer everything as is and burn it to CD then do any processing of the titles for listening on a different CD.

Goldwave was the first audio program I bought. It has very good noise reduction. I mainly use it for batch conversion down to 16bit and CEP for conversion up to 48000/32bit. That way I'm not having to reset things that often. I also use it usually to listen to songs or whatever

Has Goldwave been updated in the last 5 years?

Yup. There is a fairly new version. I use Goldwave for ripping cd's and some other stuff. There are a few useful things there.

I just upgraded to 5.06. I haven't had time to check it out completely but I believe it's now 24 bit capable and I can us my Direct X plugs realtime.

I consider Goldwave an exceptional product for the price.

I still have a ton of questions about technique and GW has a new version out which has a trial period of 30 days which is not near enough at the pace I go.

No. In fact, this is probably the last place on the net where you will find new forums appearing. Not only that (and sad to say), if questions about Goldwave keep cropping up in this forum, I'm going to have to move them to another forum.

Anyone using goldwave should check out the temp files that it comes with. I found 35Mb worth of useless stuff in mine. I read about a guy with 1GB in his. Other than that, It's very useful. Off topic-...anybody willing to trade one of their registration numbers for a Magix sound studio, or 3dflash animator....let me know.
