I am debating on upgrading my current home recorder to a used adat. I was looking at the blackface model because I am on a small budget. Is there anything I should know about the advantages/disadvantages of this model, besides the unbalanced jacks, over anyother model of adats or comparable units? And is there any mixing counsel anybody has used for 8 track recording that knocked their socks off?

I have an ADAT and a Fostex DMT8VL (hard disk recorder).
I love them both, and the two make a great combination. To me the sound quality is Identical...GREAT! But the Fostex is so much quicker,....no rewind time, And i can cut and paste parts, to make fixing mistakes simple without alot of takes! The only reason I got the ADAT is for the storage capabillity of tapes, and the option of linking up several machines for 16 or 24 tracks! One more thing.... You can find a used or discontinued Fostex for around $500.00..* 8 TRACKS of Digital! a Great deal and I have seen several at this price. Sincerely; Dom Franco |

If it has any bearing on you aquisistion I
think the black face will only run the 42 minute adat tapes and not the longer ones |
