564 compression

i'm not sure how to connect a compressor to my tascam 564 - there seems to a jack socket on the left at the back of unit. I think i may need one those Y ring tip leads or something. Ive tried plugging in my Focusrite trackmaster but it just makes cuts out track 1.

It was designed with "inserts" on the first two channels for this.
Do you have a manual?

I have and i'll have a look - i take that there's no way to compress an entrire mix and have it played back through the mixer

Out of convenience, I usually use a second mixer for mixdown
compression. (along with digital reverb, etc.)

Someone wiser than I (calling Reel!) may intercede...
