When i record multi-track (n-track studio) for longer periods of time (while listening to another track) there is a very noticable lag happening...ifi record in small bits...you don't notice the lag at all. Also i have three soundcards (awe64(x2) and sb16) they are all fullduplex and i have full duplex on...but i can't use one for listening while recording or vicevesa cuz then everything is off (lag)

The reason you're lagging (and the same reason I do) is due to a lack of processor power and/or RAM. A single full-duplex sound card would still be ideal, because if you were to use two seperate sound cards (one to play - one to record), the processor would have to switch back and forth, thus slowing you down even more.
The way I get around lagging is by simply recording in small chunks, just as you mentioned. N-Track is does very well with stitching several takes together into a single track. |
