Cool Edit Pro 2.0 lifer?

I just bought Sonar 3.0. (Luckily I opted for the "Studio" version.)
While I'm sure it's a phenomenally high-end program, using it I feel nostalgic. Like I'm out with a new chick and miss the things my ex used to do. After registering the program I felt like I made a mistake :-)
I just recorded a whole LP on CEP...it's in its final mixing stages now. My copy of Sonar arrived as I came back from a drive, jamming a few mixes in my car.
You know, the CEP mixes sounded so good, I see no reason to make the move to my new Sonar...maybe I'll chalk it up as a loss...or just use it for loops. Mix down to a track and import to my faithful CEP 2.0 for my live tracking and super-friendly editing and effects tweaking.
Anyone else experience this?

Over the years I've tried bazillions of editor programs, but I never found one that had everything I needed. I was constantly using one program to do X task, then opening a different program to do Y task, and then using a third program to do Z task (tedious to say the least). When I discovered Cool Edit, my editing tasks were simplified immensely. Very rarely do I ever need to use anything else. And now that I'm used to CE, using other software seems awkward and different.

And just this last week, I too was looking at replacing my CE2K with something "better". I tried alot of the demos for the big name programs, but none them really floated my boat. I eventually went with upgrading to Audition.

Of course I'm not saying that CE is the best by any means, but unless my needs change dramatically, I don't see myself using anything else for quite some time. In short, I hear ya brother

And it's really ugly.......

Maybe use CEP for tracking, editing, and mixing, and SONAR to sequence along side audiotracks, although I think you just bought FL Studio, which has a sampler, and can use VSTis ( a must!)

Maybe you can return it

And VST effects, says me....

A more flexible mixer would be great, too

Yep. I bought FL Studio and love it.
I'm not sure if I can return Sonar once it's been registered...
Maybe if I learn the thing, it'll proove to be worth the investment in the future...
Yeah, the older versions of Sonar are Coyote ugly. This one's kind of cool looking with custom interface colors like CEP.
I think I'll stay with my FL Studio/Acid 4.0/CEP 2.0 trio for awhile.
It's worked like a charm.

I too am a CEP lifer. I can't find any other program that has the all in one features. The workflow is great. I agree about asio, and would like to see CEP expanded and upgraded with at least VST. I am hoping that now one of the big boys(Adobe) owns it, they will streamline and add some of the great functionality that all of their other programs have.

Sonar was ugly!!!!!
Sonar 3.0 rocks, My friend is a beta tester for Cakewalk.
He put so much input into the redesign of it and its amazingly a huge improvement.
The mixer and edit view are very well designed.
Give it a chance!
I have a old copy of Sonar 2.2xl I dont use...........
Cakewalk has never realy been my friend, cause I happy with my recording friend cool edit pro and wouldnt go back to old one.
Kind like the fact that I love my girlfriend now cause she would never be unreliable complain or be a just plain bitch! But the old one well................
HEHEHEEH!!!!!!
If you just cant get in sonar three break it off fast and call cool edit 2.0.
