Quartet panning & EQing
I had posted this question in the recording forum, but then realized that I should have posted it here.
I am trying to find out how best to pan (and EQ) a quartet in a mix. I read a lot about the lead vocal and backup vocals, but how should I pan four "equal" voices in a quartet or musical group? Should all the voices be in the middle? And what about a small choir ensemble? If I have each part (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) recorded on different tracts, what would be the best panning? Thank you for your help! |

Yo Tileeba: [great title for a song = Tileeeeeeba aye aye aye....
I'm assuming you will use more than one mic? If so, you can do the tracks a number of ways; however, if you save panning until you mix down, things should work out. You will have a dominant voice or maybe two? The others may be blend/soft voices, almost backing up. Suggest you listen to some tracks by Manhattan Transfer and that should give you some ideas.
