Yamaha SHB400 Guitar???? Help!!

Does anyone know anything about this axe?

I got one at a rummage sale for $25 (they thought it didn't work). It works fine - maybe they had a bad cord.

It sounds decent, but plays hard due to a thick neck - but it may be a very good guitar for open tuned slide work. I really bought it to have a cheap guitar to tear apart and learn how to work on guitars.

I looks like it may be Yamaha's version of something like an SG - I saw one post on a different site that suggested this model came out for a short time in 80' - 81'.

I can't find anything at the Yamaha web site and so far I haven't found it in any "vintage" books.

When was it made? What was the retail/street price at the time, etc.? Is this a cheap piece o' crap (my guess) or a rare find that will fund my retirement?

anything like this

http://www.hut.fi/~arintama/guitar/p...400(small).jpg

if it does, seems like a nice enough guitar

i used to own an aria pro II something from the beginning of the eighties with that same thick neck and the axe i play now (chiquita tracel bass w guitar strings) has the same-i grew to like necks like that.

wetteke,

That is the guitar, right down to the finish.

The link gave a picture - but no info on the year made, etc.

Can you tell me anything about the site the link was to - or anything else that will help me learn a little more about this axe?

Thanks for your reply and any other info you can offer!!!
