Question hook mixing brd to PC

I have a PC that needs a sound card. I have a PA system, mics, mixing board, pre amps, in the studio and want to record 8 seperate tracks at once (record drum kit) with Protools Free. Do I just come out of the stereo AUX outputs on the mixing board to the sound card? Will Protools be able to seperate each mike or will I need some type of patch box ?

You will need a soundcard with 8 seperate inputs like a Delta 1010 or one of the MOTU cards.

That is 'if' PT Free will work with them. PT usually requires Digidesign hardware.

Chances are, you'll get an LE version of recording software with any 8-input sound card you get. While I hate it, I got a 16 track version of Logic Audio with my C-Port.

..word of caution... The PC version of PT Free is complete garbage, unless they've updated it in the last 6 months. Full of bugs, total crap. There are much better free/cheap options out there I'd explore before wasting the effort with PT Free (Mac version supposedly does not have the same problems though)
