I have a PC that needs a sound card. I have a PA system, mics, mixing board, pre amps, in the studio and want to record 8 seperate tracks at once (record drum kit) with Protools Free. Do I just come out of the stereo AUX outputs on the mixing board to the sound card? Will Protools be able to seperate each mike or will I need some type of patch box ?

You will need a soundcard with 8 seperate inputs like a Delta 1010 or one of the MOTU cards.
That is 'if' PT Free will work with them. PT usually requires Digidesign hardware. |

Chances are, you'll get an LE version of recording software with any 8-input sound card you get. While I hate it, I got a 16 track version of Logic Audio with my C-Port.
..word of caution... The PC version of PT Free is complete garbage, unless they've updated it in the last 6 months. Full of bugs, total crap. There are much better free/cheap options out there I'd explore before wasting the effort with PT Free (Mac version supposedly does not have the same problems though) |
