Opening Sonar 2.2XL projects with Sonar3
Has any one else had a problem opening Sonar XL 2.2 projects with 3 (producers pack) ?
Most of my 2.2XL projects have opened OK however one with a lot of effects and automation (like one I have spent a lot of time on) takes like 4 min to open and when it does is missing half the automation and sound like crap ? WTF??? So, I went back into Sonar 2.2 turned off all the automation and.....same problem. I have gone back and re-saved the project in Sonar 2.2....no joy ! Any thoughts? |

Well, I'm not sure about SONAR 3... but try this:
1. Open the project in SONAR 2.2XL, 2. Select all tracks (including automation, etc...) and copy it... It's gonna take some time, but just do it... 3. Open new project... paste it... 4. Make necessary fx adjusment... 5. If you are sure the new project is perfectly identical with the previous one, save it in other name... but don't delete the previous one... 6. Close SONAR 2.2XL, go to Sonar 3, and open the new saved project... Hope it helps... ![]() Jaymz

I have seen home weird stuff with automation in S3. No show stoppers yet but I am currently working on a track that must be played from the beginning (so far as I have noticed) to get the mutes to work.
The track I am working on was initially recorded in S2.2. It was only drums and bass. I recorded everything else in S3. The track I am trying to mute (with automation) happens to have been recorded in S2.2. Not sure how deep this is yet. Thankfully the smpte transmit feature lets me use the automation in my board which is fantastic and much faster than doing it all with envelopes. I made a pretty tweaked mix with automation all over the place in about 20 minutes. It always takes much longer when I automate within Sonar. Cheers, RD |

I have always a lot of automation going on, and my projects opened up just fine...

Hey Moskus, have you got S3? It has not arrived in Europe yet.

Just wish mine had arrived last week. Now it looks like it will turn up when I have no time left to play with it. Not for a couple of weeks at least.

Disaster, I can copy tracks in Sonar 2.2 but cant past it into 3. I'm working with 2.2 Ghz / 512 Mb PC running XP so I have plenty of cycles...just crappy dropped out audio.
Now another track that I was working on and had sounded OK has crapped out on me ! I'm fuming ! Any more thoughts ? |

Not to tell you the answer after the damage, but you did save a backup of the project before you saved it in Sonar3-format? Hopefully?

That article talks about Dropouts. Is that's what's been going on?
As you know Sonar 3 is more CPU intensive than Sonar 2. Maybe you should raise your latency just a tad?

Moskus ...you named that tune in one man.
I dicked about with the Aud.ini file and....nothing happened. I am using an RMEaudio Digi96/8 Pad card with ASIO drivers and increasing latency (32 mSec) did the job. All is well and I'm a happy camper once again ! |

Moskus,
How long did you get to work with S3 at the music store? My S2 projects open without at hitch and seem to run fine. My most recent project was started in S2 but no production work had been done, only basic tracking. I am not ready to cry bug yet because some other automation seems to be working fine in S3 with the exception of the track I am muting and mentioned before. Most of the automation in this tune is pretty subtle so it's a bit hard to notice all of it all the time. I slapped a volume envelope on the kick and snare tracks to take care of a couple spots where things got a little too strong and caused clips during mixing. I get the feeling that it will take some time for people to notice some of this stuff if it is acting a little funny. I have been on it for most of this tune and it is generally a very pleasing experience. (They didn't even break the tab module this time like they did in S2 ).Hope you get your copy soon. Also, have they got a music store in Trondheim, Norway? Can't rember seeing one. But they have a supposedly world famous fish restaurant where I made myself almost world famous by ordering beef.

Okay, this was a new one...
![]() To answer you questions in no particular order: - Yes, Trondheims has 3 music shops. - The owner of the "best" shop is a friend of mine. - One of the employees had been to NY and bought Sonar 3 on the way back home. - I didn't have a problem whit my 2.2 projects when I opened them in Sonar 3. - I post like crazy when I'm not recording, but that's nor a secret to anybody... ![]() Any other questions?

Moskus,
Just to be clear, I was not accusing you of anything or questioning the validity of your observations. On the contrary I believe you probably know cakewalk software as well as anyone. I was jus curious how long you were able to mess with S3. It took me a week to see anything weird. I have not been mixing extensively yet. I am such an amazing player that I never make mistakes so my editing is spare too . In fact I hardly ever use eq because the tone is just "in my hands". My hand is like a 5 band parametric eq. Oh God, I'm on a roll here. No, seriously I observed the odd muting problem a few times but tonight while listening to the mix on a feshly booted computer with a freshly launched S3 it worked as advertised. Who knows? I can tell you one thing: It hasn't crashed once and that's the truth. Cheers, RD |
