what's the scoop?????

i'm trying to multi-track record an analog signal on cakewalk express 8.0. track one works like a champ, but when i add track two things get weird. about 20-30 secs into the song. the two tracks become out of sync with each other . is it me , or the gear .or what ?? any suggestions would really be appriciated.

thanks for making such a cool site

CW express 8, eh ? It's been a long time...
Anyway, what's your system spec? (Processor, RAM, HD, OS, soundcard, etc...) This symptomp occured sometime because of bad driver of the soundcard...

Are you by any chance trying to record a standalone recorder to your PC?

Talking

thanks for the replies!!
im using an amd 550mgz with 512 ram(pc 133) and a sound blatser pci 16 sound card . im creating my signal to be recorded with a bass or guitar ,then running that through a zoom 708 effects unit, then into the sound card. the process works lika champ on the first track. it can be any lengthof time.plays back just fine. then i can arm track two and play back tk1 ,play along with tk1 . during recording it all sounds fine. then i un-arm tk2 and play back both tracks . about 20-30 seconds tk 2 becomes later and later. since im a low budget guy i cannot just go out and buy a nice recorder.so im trying to get this thing working.
im also not sure of cw8 system req. but i susepct i have enough computer power.
thanks again!! for the replies

Wow wow wow..., Sound Blaster PCI 16
I highly suspect the sound card is the primary problem here. Look, you don't have to be that rich to get better card, IMHO Even 30 bucks SBLive! will give you better recording performance... PCI 128 is crap I think, let alone the PCI 16... they only work good for Windows multimedia thingee... not multitracking... Get better card as you can afford...

Really, James?!?

Have you forgotten about your old computer specs? That's your first post by the way...

And my second post was a reply to your third post. I recommended the SB Live!

How time flies...

MadMikey, the different recording shouldn't drift appart like that. What OS are you running and is there some newer drivers around?

Would the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card and Logic work on his system worth a crap?

Yeah, Logic is a Mac program. It sucked anyway...

The best program around is Cakewalk SONAR! And there's Cakewalk HomeStudio, Cubase, Samplitube And a lot more! Even the old Cakewalk Express 8 which Mad Mikey is using.

ok. im running windows 98 se.i also have an aureal sound card i can try in the system. how about the pro tools free program???
i recently downloaded it on the same machine and it works fine. im actually trying to multi track record my band one track at a time .i have done some stuff on the p/t and am happy with the results there but figured since i have the c/w stuff i'de try that too.

how would the sonar program compare to the p/t free??
is the 2.whatever gigahertz systems really nessescary or could i acheive good results with say 800mgz??

i will look into a better sound card also

thank you all for yer time and efforts

And also, will CW Express allow you to edit individual tracks on the clef down to individual notes? ie; timing and pitch...

Thats a bit of a strange question but, Mike happens to play bass in my band, we're collectively trying to gather as much information on different combinations of cards and software to meet our needs. I personaly am very new to the digital recording world and the fact that Im an inormation glutton brought me to this forum... Does that answer your question sufficiantly? Thanks for your input.

Good to hear you made it well...

CW Express 8 doesn't do mixer automation. Nor even CWPA 9, only SONAR does.

DirectX effect plugins go here:

http://www.thedirectxfiles.com/plugins.htm

To use your MIDI/Joystick port as MIDI port, you need an optional breakout Joystick/MIDI cables. Check your local computer/multimedia dealer. And off course, you need external MIDI device to hook to the port...

Hope it helps,

Jaymz

We know, we know...

Glad you sorted it out. But you see, you've only just started. From now on you're going to be broke no matter what. You just discovered that you need a better soundcard so you bought that, but now you need Sonar (or HomeStudio) to make automated mixes and that's gonna cost you too. Soon you need a new mic, but then you need a new mixer... and so on.

Get out before it's too late!
