so, you just pop in a band's cd you want to have a similar sounding mix to, compare meters, eq, and try like hell to duplicate it? Is that it?

Thank you for confirming that. Because just comparing my mix to a commercial cd in a similar genere has improved my mixes dramatically.

Have some idiot put one in with the CD player turned up. The 1000hz tone was fine. The 10,000hz blew the tweeters then the pure 30hz tone cut in and smoked the bass drivers at a setup for a major concert.

Glad I was just grunt labor at that one. The console operator was fired on the spot.
