Sonar 3 issues - Vsampler 3

Ok, just worked through an issue with Vsampler 3 and thought I would pass along so others don't pull their hair out.

First, Vsampler is a memory pig but with a lot of potential beauty.

The piano sounds; the best I have heard even against Gigasampler and some others I own. The problem is, you need to start Vsampler outside of Sonar and go through the piano sounds to determine which are the ones for you. If you do this inside of Sonar it loads too much information. The software loads up multiple samples in various banks and by the time you get it loaded in Sonar the computer comes to a grinding halt. This even though I have a P4 2.4 and 512 ram.

To get around this, find your favorite piano and just load 1 bank at a time save this set in Vsampler and then when you load it in Sonar it takes up less memory.

It's a pain but the piano samples when loaded using the defaults are just too big along with other tracks you may have going.

The other option, if you are a piano writer, is to load just one audio and one midi track. Then load the Vsampler default, memory hogging banks, record your tune and convert your midi track to audio.

Thought I would share in case others have slow downs and audio skips when using Vsampler 3.

Sklathill will become famous soon enough
Huh...grinding halt, you say? Maybe that 768 megs (also a P4) I have is just enough extra boost for me. I've been making EXTENSIVE use of vsampler over the last few days. Right now, I've got 26 midi tracks driving 4 vsampler plugins handling my own custom banks of orchestral instruments, derived from Miroslav AKAI, Advanced Orchestra AKAI, G-town GIG, and miscellaneous other instruments. About 1.3 gigs for the whole thing...Takes less than 5 seconds between opening the song to beginning of playback. Loading the piano vs3 was a couple of seconds. Overall, I feel that my big quad vsampler setup is remarkably faster than what I was used to with GS96 and two full midibanks with less instruments in the banks.

I'm guessing you have the full vsampler 3, then? The one that comes with Sonar 3 PE is only a dxi plugin. Unless there's some way to run it outside of Sonar that I'm missing?

I'm guessing you're right about the extra memory. I will be off to the store today to see if things improve.

I had the full version of VSampler 2.7 installed. When I loaded S3 it automatically gave me some icons to launch outside of Sonar. I then decided to delete 2.7 and clean up some things. When I reinstalled Sonar I could not get the external icons to show up. Some wierd glitch I guess.

I will get some extra memory and try this again.
