Electronica version of "As Time Goes By"

hi guys -- wassup?

just finished a new & shiny electronica tune. It has some samples of the movie Casablanca in it (not cleared yet), inspired by the Sacre Bleu album by Dimitri from Paris (he used samples of 'Breakfast at Tiffanies' in one of his songs).

One of my main problems is still how to project the mix from the M-Audio BX8 monitors to home/car stereos. No matter what I do, the bass is still far too heavy, I think, despite a 70Hz cutoff and some pre-mastering with Ozone. Maybe you have some advice. Gimmi your comments, ok?

Howdy, i'm listening to this on my event tr8 monitors and it sounds great! For this type of music, i'd say the bass is just about right. I love Ozone.. are you using version 2.0?

Hi Jason --

thanks for your reply! I am still using the old version of Ozone I. Maybe I should get the latest version. I also used TRacks for a while, but didn't like it as much.

doesn't sound like too much bass, but it's a bit of a woofy bass sound.. maybe a low cut on it somewhere or slightly lower.. it's a very subby sound sharing similar bass drum frequencies.. not too bad for the song on computer speakers, but I can imagine it on a car stereo.. maybe someone else will have something useful..

Giganova

I don't have any computer based recording experience to offer you on how to tweak this track but, I can say this much; There is precious little wrong with the mix or overall eq of what I am hearing on my end here on a pair of Tremor S150's made by TDK. (yeah, I never heard of them either but they sound great!)

I am hearing a little bit of mud on the bottom end of this but it doesn't really stand out as radically different then many other recordings in this genre of music which thrives on an abnormal amount of bottom end compared to acoustical based styles of music.

I liked the track but kept hoping for a vocal to come through and bring a story line to the track but, it never showed up.

Otherwise, good stuff!

Cheers!

thanks for your replies, SABBTH and Ghost of FM!

I realize now that the (sub)bass and drum might share the same frequencies, which is inherent in the genre. I'll try to clean that up a bit so it doesn't sound as muddy.

Good idea with the vocals! I'll add that.

boydrj is on a distinguished road
I listened on headphones and it sounded great for this genre (normally I would say it is a bass-heavy, but I think this genre requires this)...

Some real nice mixing on this. I like the ambiance of the track, kind of puts you in a trance (isn't this the intent?)

Nice job. The samples were a nice touch, too!
