crackling on play back cubase sx

i have just installed cubase sx and am getting a lot of crackling 0ver the recorded parts of tracks ,the noise stops in the the pauses /quiet bits.I have checked my levels ect and connections /wires all seem ok.I didnt have this problem with vst 5.0 .Im running 98 se with 700mhz processor and a M Audio Audiophile 2496.I would appreciate any advice.

Sorry can't help on this one Rick. I have a similar problem however and will post a thread on it. Have you isolated the crackling to a particular track or combination of tracks I wonder? Or is it happening with any track that has sound coming from it?

I'll get back if I think I can help later.

What do you have your latency sample rate set to in the m-audio control panel.

The problem occurs on any track,but intermitantly.That is to sayone day it will happen then next time not .I guess it happens about 80 to 90% of the time.When it happens it does on all tracks one after the other. My latency sample rate is set at 1056.
