what do i build my slot resonators and stuff out of?
can i use plywood for this? i mean, what cheapish material do people use to build these things like on the SAE site.

People on the "John Sayers' Site" don't use cheapish materials.
How about this: 1.) Hire John to design something for you. 2.) Design something yourself. Draw it up in a nice cad program with multiple views, detailed dimensions, add a bill of materials, and post it here. Then we can look it over, and let you know what we think. There's really no "cheap" way to do this.

that doesnt answer any questions... i just wanted to know, what kind of materials can be used for this? okay, forget about "cheapish"... i think i was actually referring to the SAE thing. so yeah, what kinds of materials can be used for that.

Well, you could use anything from plastic with a stick-on grain pattern to imported sitka spruce.
One's cheap. One's not. The point is, the quality of your materials will have a direct bearing on the quality of your finished product. If you can't afford solid hardwood, a thick plywood may be a viable option.

Your profile doesn't show your location, but sometimes you can find a limited range of hardwoods at local lumber yards - other times, you need to go to custom cabinet supply houses. For slot resonators, you'll often want pretty thick woods - one way to do this is to buy thin veneers and laminate them to standard 2x6 lumber, then rip the edge to get a square cut. Looks pretty nice without having to pay for solid hardwoods... Steve
