OK, so I found another local supplier of rockwool.
I had a bunch of it delivered, and I put in the rear wall this weekend.

This is Nasty, knarley, stuff!
Even with wearing the enviro-suits, that stuff manages to find a way in.
And.... Its really hard to cut.
Anyone figure out a good method for cutting it?
I tried and electric knife, and that works pretty good, but kind of slow going. The best way I've found is to use a long blade, serrated butcher's knife.

No seriously, when I used to use that stuff for hydroponic...uh..gardening I would use a Japan saw. If you aren't familiar with those they have a long handle with a fine toothed, flex blade.

Oh sure. I did.

I use a wood saw to cut some Thermafiber, works pretty well.

Yeah, I tried that too.
It seemed to rip it more than cut it.

Here's an idea: Maybe a fine toothed, stiff backed, saw, used for trim will work though.

I'll report back.

Michael, if you have a recip saw available (Sawzall, Tigersaw, etc) you might try 18 or 24 tooth metal cutting blades, 6" long - use a light touch and highest speed... Steve

I was trying to avoid using power tools. They tend to throw a lot of that fiber around.

You might be able to cut it all in a small finished room, keeping the wand of a shop vac next to the blade - you'd have to mark the cuts though, instead of just holding it up against the destination and whacking away at it. Goes without saying to always use a dust mask.

What thickness are you using? Tried LARGE tin snips?
