Does anyone know if I can use a plain old footswitch, say from my amp to use as a punch in/punch out switch for my FD-8? It takes a 1/4 inch mono plug. I know about the auto punch features of my unit. I just thought this would easier in some situations.

I've been using the punch in/out footswitch that came with my tascam 424 without any problems, for, what it's worth. Good luck.
