What's the blue stuff on the walls? How soundproof is it? Is it expensive?

I had everything set up like that (through the mixer) to create a massive headphone mix for a jam session. I wasn't worried about the actual recording, I just wanted everyone to be able to hear themselves in their own mix. That was the most efficient way I could think of.
The blue stuff on the walls is not soundproof at all. It's a fire resistant rubber foam material that I found at Costco pretty cheap. I did notice a small difference in the upper frequency ranges of the room, but it's more for fun than anything else.

There's a lot in this forum about sound"proofing" and acoustics. Read, read, read, before you buy anything.

Hey all, I've finally finished my mock-ups. I'd love to hear your thoughts or ideas on improving isolation in voice booth...
Regarding the colours...Orange is drywall, Dark green is insulation and yellow is some kind of insulation that looked a couple of inches thick and had some rigidity to it.
NOTE: there is no drywall on any wall surface that faces the voice booth or on the exterior wall surfaces of the voice booth itself.

You'll get a better response if you start a new thread with your query--this is just a old long thread where folks post pics of there studios--not where they go for help. There's lots of knowledgeable studio/building guys around here, so if you start a new thread with this post in the Studio Building forum--you'll get some input.

Hi jinglesmountjoy. Looks good. I see a couple of things, but I need another view. Can you email me the Sketchup file. Click on my name and theres a place to email me. Mainly 3 issues. The door details, the cieling details at the partition wall, and the plenum. The yellow stuff should be Owens Corning 703. However, whereever you have partitions in the box made of these, but they need a solid boundary as well, as sound will travel right through partitions made of rigid fiberglass. Afterall, thats how they absorb sound....they are NOT Transmission Loss boundarys. They need a solid boundary where particle velocity is zero.

Here's a somewhat recent shot of my place. I've added a 3rd lcd monitor and a new board though.

the one in the picture is a Mackie 16x8x2. I replaced it with an A&H GL2400/24. Not as studio friendly as the Mackie was, more of a live board, but a whole bunch more reliable. I'm figuring out routing workarounds as I go.

Unless they're of the indie/hipster variety, in which case anything recorded on R2R is solid gold and anything recorded Digital is dishonest and shameful, regardless of the musical qualities.
Sorry, I'm bitter from being forced to interact with stupid people more often than I'd ever wish upon anyone

Putting the lava lamps on-top of your monitors - that's brave!
I've spent most of today clearing my studio out in preparation for some big changes. Mental note to self - don't use so many cable ties next time!
