I'm getting ripped off on ebay!!!!
I just bought a sunn 16 channel mixer on ebay. I spent $101 on the mixer but the buyer is claiming that it is going to be $191 to ship. This comes to a total of about $300
I misunderstood the ebay user and paid him $191 for the unit. I assumed that he meant that was the total not just the shipping.
He now told me that I had had only paid the "shipping amount".
am I the only one that thinks this is absurd. HE WANTS ME TO PAY ALMOST 200% OF WHAT THE PRICE OF THE UNIT IS IN SHIPPING.
Anyone have any action I can to correct this problem?

Depending on the weight, distance and shipping method, it could easily be that much to ship a 16-channel mixer.

If its one of the older ones, it could run about over 110 lbs.

I understand that now but I was completely shocked. Is the mixer worth almost $300? Here is the link to the unit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
If the unit is worth this much then I suppose I would be ok with this, but I was under the impression that it wasn't worth quite this much.

Uh, that auction says free shipping. Open a dispute with eBay under "excessive shipping and handling" and say that the auction said free shipping and the seller is trying to charge you $191. You should find that option somewhere under Dispute Console--don't give up, those menus are kinda hard to find your way through.

I can't figure out how to actually talk to a person on that thing. I'm still waiting for the seller to respond we may be able to work it out.
Is there a number that I can call?

No, you have to use Dispute Console.

yeah, it's right there in black and white, shipping is FREE. Dispute him with eBay, if he runs his yap, dispute it with paypal too.

The item description says the case is large and there is a shipping charge. It also says to email for shipping details.
Seems to me you should have asked him what the shipping cost would be.

But that shouldnt matter if it clearly says, right at the top, FREE. You cant just put fine print contradicting that

Yeah, that's true... But also right there in black and white are two sentences: "There is a shipping charge as the case if pretty large. Please e-mail for shipping details."
...And its probably a given that if you're buying something, youre gonna read the items description first... And its probably also a given that once you bid, its like a "terms agreement" so to speak, or a confirmation that you actually read the sellers terms of sale.....Which sucks, because 191 bucks is pretty steep. Did you do like he said -- e-mail him about a shipping quote before you placed your bid?
If not, I dont know what to say. Although I do agree that 191 bucks is ridiculous, he did say to contact him first... And if I were the one bidding, I sure wouldve wanted to know what the shipping costs were gonna be BEFORE I placed my bid.

Maybe, just maybe, he meant that he will send it WITHOUT the case with no shipping charge, or WITH the case with the charge

I think the contradiction might clear his ass though. He can probably just claim a mistake, and under free it does say other and something about ask for details so.... I think by him clearly stating to contact about shipping clears him and honestly he should've contacted the guy. I can say I sent a 16 channel yammy once and I think it was only like 37 bucks. If nothing else the guy's guilty of just being a dick.

Also, if you look right underneath that you will see "Other (see description)"
If youve ever sold on ebay, you will know that they give you the option to make your own terms of sale- hence the "other"
AND you also have to take into consideration that not everyone is computer savvy... So I wouldntve based my judgement off of an ebay selectable shipping "preset," when right there in the description the seller actually WROTE himself that there would be a shipping charge...and to email him for a quote....clear as crystal.
Would you place a bid on something without knowing the shipping costs??

You're right. I check the shipping costs out straight after i find out the price of the item. Cos i have to work out how much i have to pay in total.

Yeah, definitely.... And if you look at the sellers feedback, its 100%. So its not like he's running a scam operation or anything.

There is conflicting information in the auction notice. In the description he says there is a large case and a shipping charge, but further down the page it says shipping is free. That definitely should have been an item for discussion with the seller, and underscores the need to read eBay auction notices *very* carefully.
Depending on how heavy the mixer and case are, what their dimensions are, and how far they have to be shipped, it could indeed cost $191. Or in the vicinity of that.
I generally avoid bidding on auctions with open ended shipping charges. I've been burnt a couple times by sellers demanding unreasonable shipping after the auction has ended.
For future reference, a red flag in that auction description is that the seller says "The exact condition of it is unknown". He is making no guarantees, so if it works properly out of the box, count yourself as very lucky.

That's why I say....... ASK them for a quote before you even BID!!
Easy concept here.
Then you will save youself the trouble of wondering what the costs are, only to find out you got shafted. If you are willing to shell out some money, at least take the time to get all the details. This way you KNOW if you want to bid, or keep on searchin'!!!
But I do agree with you about the "unknown condition" thing.

Conflicting language can be construed against the party that drafted the language, in this case, the seller. He is responsible for what he put in the auction. It's certainly enough to hammer the seller by opening a dispute with eBay. If he is straight up, he'll take the $90 you've already paid him for shipping.

depending on what type of guy he is you may want to let him know it was a mistake and you would like to retract your bid see if he understands. I mad a mistake once and the guy asked if I knew what I was bidding on after I had won the item. I though I was bidding on drumkit from hell superior when in fact it was DFH 2. The stock photo looked very similar the more expensive one. I just went a head and bought it anyway since I got it for 80 buck total. try the good guy first he may work with you.

He DID, in fact, say that there WERE shiping charges in the auctions description. It doesnt get much clearer than that. If the buyer doesnt take the initiative to contact the seller, and proceeds to bid anyway, its no ones fault but the buyers.
By bidding on an auction, you accept the auctions terms...And in this case, sure, they may have been a bit contradictory... BUT right there in plain sight it says that there are shipping charges... Would you just blatantly disregard those TWO sentences written personally by the SELLER based on the fact that there was a bit of confusion?? I think not.
Would you dive head first into water where the depth was unknown??
HELL NO!! lol
Ok, I'm done on this thread. Sorry if offended anyone, but its just a weird thing for me to think about -- Why would you place a bid without knowing (or even having a slight idea for that matter) the final costs??
All I can say is maybe try to dispute it with ebay... Who knows, maybe you'll get the benefit of the doubt!
Hope it works out for ya!

1. nice score. $300 looks like a good price (if it works)
2. $191 is ridiculous. should be more like $60. but what do I know.
3. get your own shipping quote. include that with your complaint.
4. don't pay the $300. if it's broken you'll just be more upset.
this is obviously a scam; I wouldn't pay it.

so Falken you think that this is a $300 is a fair price. I suppose that if $300 is a good price then I may be alright afterall I just don't like the idea of $191 shipping.
Is $300 a normal price for a mixer like this?
