Mapex Drums

Hello everyone, I just recently recieved a drum kit that I ordered about 6 months ago. Its an 8 piece double bass Mapex Saturn Pro kit, and its killer!! I got a Gibraltar double bass rack with it and two Axis A pedals. Definitely my dream set up. I was just wondering if anyone else out there plays mapex, and if so, are you happy? I know I am... I had an old mars series kit before this one, and it sounded about average for its price range. However, in my humble opinion the saturn pro series is way ahead of any other series out there. I will be using them to record for the first time on November 11th. I'll try to let everyone know when an MP3 is available so you can see just how great these drums sound. Mapex is far too underrated.

p.s.: the only problem i have with mapex is their customer service.... although i do think the hold up with my order was due to the fact that mapex was in the process of completely remanufacturing the series... oh well, they were well worth the wait!

Sorry I don't own a mapex set, but I felt sorry for you when no one would answer your thread. I've just started posting myself and I feel left out when knowone writes. I use an old premier set and probably always will. They only made my set a couple of years and not many people have them. It is a Resonator series made in 1977 and special ordered. I bought them from a close friend for $500.00. They have smooth inside shells, (the lugs are put in and then additional layers of laminate are applied inside the drum so you have nothing on the inside of the shell sticking out) Take care of that mapex set and buy some cases NOW!!! Trust me if you like your set cases are as important as any part of you kit. I have the scratches to prove it unfortunatly.

The Premier Resonator (and projector) series were introduced in the late seventies. They were made up of 2 seperate shells, that's why you can't see the hardware. The outer shell had all the mounting hardware, lugs and the bearing edge on it. The inner shell was a thin ply veneer shell attached to the edge of the bearing edge, hiding all the screws and acting as a "resonant" shell.

The double shell design gave the drum a full, round and projecting tone. The Resonator and the Projector series were discontinued due to the increased price of the drums since they had 2 shells.

Hi Ryan,

The Mapex Upper lines (such as your purchase here) are definitely good kits. How do you like the Axis Pedals?
I've been using Axis since they first came on the Market, and they are the ULTIMATE Pedals. Now I'm using the longboards (after harassing Axis for Months to make them!!!
I use the Joe Stronsick's Ballistic Bassdrum technique, and Axis told us they were going to make them for us [us being guys with big feet ] )

In 6 months, I was able to literally quadruple my kickspeed!! I can NOT say enough about this. All it it takes, is the determination to be the best that you can be, and willingness to dedicate 30 Minutes a day to practicing just for the kicks.

Trust me, it is WORTH the money to learn to do this!
I've been a Double Kicker for 20 years-and this completely changed my life and drumming for the better!
Now-I scare the crap out of the local "death metal blast beat" guys! hahahaha

This is just one of those things that ACTUALLY WORKS.
If you buy the system, and see the video-once he starts douing the double stroke rolls-you'll have a FIT man!! This guy can do what I call a "doublestroke Buzz roll" with his feet, and you can too if you're willing to learn!

I recently saw a Mapex Mars Series 8pce kit, with no cymbals and tama iron cobra pedals for $2000. I was wondering on your thoughts about the sound of the kit and if this sounds like a resonable price to pay for the kit.

I think $2000 is a little to much for that kit. I would go with a Saturn Pro kit if you spend over 2k. From what I remember the Mapex Mars kits are just the M pro line.

I thought M and Mars were the same thing

I found this quote on Wikipedia:
"In years past the V and Pro M series were called the Venus and Mars series, in keeping with the tradition of naming the kits after planets. However, the quality of these series have changed since they dropped the old names."

What does this mean the Mars is better quality or the M?

Wow, this thread is like one of those comets with a really wide elliptical orbit that returns to earth every few years. Does Mapex make a "C" set? I'm afraid DrummerRyan may be outside the solar system at this point, but maybe not.

No one's replying to my stupid-buy-of-the-day thread about the Mapex pedal, so I guess I'll hang out here. Anyone like the Mapex pedals? I see references to Tama pedals with Mapex sets here, so maybe not?

I play a 6pc Mapex Pro-M with Tama Iron Cobra pedals.

I never even took the Mapex pedal out of the box.

you were right not too because mapex pedals are not great but tama on the other hand and DW and Pearl have excellent pair of pedals. (dw are a bit heavy on the touch but have a great hit. Pearl make extremely sensitive pedals.)my opinion. ( i got dx 9000 pedal)
