fd-4 recording help (fd-4 users especially)

Pardon me, but I speak jive. ;^) Errr, at least I have an FD-8 and may be able to help you. Here goes... 1. Plug into any one of your four inputs and switch the selector over the fader to "input" as you have been doing. Make sure all the other input selectors are set to "OFF"! 2. Set the pan...

    PA not Working...What Happened?

Right. Though you usually need to give the amp a few seconds to a minute to completely power down, then turn off the mixer. Otherwise, as mentioned, you'll get a pop from the speakers...which is a very bad sign at a live gig. :( Not many of the working bands 'round here have (or can afford)...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

To send just one track I set the digital output tracks to the stereo bus ( L ] R ] ), then select only the track you want on the mixer and pan it either hard left or hard right. You should be hearing just that track on monitoring. Oh, BTW, I have the FD-8...same as your FD-4 with a few tweaks...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

Oh, AFAIK, you are correct about the conversions. You'll just have the first initial conversion in the Fostex while tracking.

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

I don't have the SB Live!, but an older SB (Audio PCI 64V). I still have had no compatability problems. Right now, I am now using the Dio as my Windows sound card and it's working great. Game soundtracks ROCK through the monitors versus the 'puter speakers I have. I really don't have anything...

    Soundcard?

The manual will walk you through it pretty well. The main requirement is a free PCI slot. You do NOT have to remove your old card as long as the free slot requirement is met.

    Soundcard?

*Expensive* optical I/O's www.marsmusic.com has the MAudio Dio 2448, which has both optical and coax S/PDIF I/O's and samples *up to* 24bit/48kHz...all for the outrageous fee of $89. :p Perfect for that minidisc.

How to use the optical output ?

No. You connect the two with a fiber optic S/PDIF cable, then under "Setup" on the Fostex you select the two tracks you wish to send to the soundcard. It is very important that you set the sampling rate for the card to match the Fostex. See this thread for more info...

Can I use a "piggyback cable" to send two S/PDIF sources into my receiver?

There are plenty of coax<>optical converters out there that should relieve you of cable swapping. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Digital_Cable_Format_Converters.html

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

Yes. The CD-RW you have now is connected to your sound card, n'est pas? The connector on the card that it plugs into is called a header. It is a 2-4 pin, non-optical, connection. IIRC, the digital header looked a little different than the analog. Since I don't have an internal digital drive yet...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

Yes. Most that I've seen do. I use a Philips 700 standalone which does indeed have an optical in...though I wouldn't recommend that particular component to you. Mine is currently in the "shop" for repairs. I plan to invest in an internal SCSI burner soon. The Dio has both digital and analog...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

That *is* a rather worrisome statement you found there, as I was under the assumption that when transferring between two digital devices that the sampling rate(s) should be the same. This is very true of the Fostex-DAT transfers I've done in the past. I've been sending tracks the same as I would...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

I'm running on a *very* low end system. A 333 Celeron (tweaked a bit) that came with an Creative SB Audio PCI 64V sound card. I recently bought the Dio for the express purpose of moving my tracks in the digital domain. I had been moving them via the stereo outs to a phono/TRS mini-plug into the...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

While I admit it would be nice to be a able to transfer from the Fostex to the PC as a data file, that ain't what's happenin' in my transfers. It's still a "dub" like any other dub. Open a multitracker on your PC (N Track or Cakewalk in my case) hit record on that and play on the Fostex. You do...

    Fostex stero out to soundcard?

I have an FD-8 that I run to the PC via optical S/PDIF to my MAudio Dio 2448 card. This is definitely the way to go ...and best of all the card is only $89 at www.marsmusic.com You can use it in conjunction with you SB for any Midi stuff you're doing. I've had mine a couple of weeks and it works...

    Digital Signals from DAT

I don't have a Mac, but when I transfer from my digital 'tracker to the Dio 2448 in my PC (using optical S/PDIF), I use the master volume control under Windows to control the I/O levels. Maybe the Mac OS has an equivalent?

    FD-8 XLR's not working?

I am now a two day old newbie with this FD-8 I rescued from my brothers attic. The only problem I have (besides only being able to do two tracks at once) is in getting any kind of input signal from the two XLR inputs on the back. I've tried several different cords and mics, I even ran a line in...
