I don't think you're going crazy. There is a similarity between the songs. I've had my songs taken after I left bands too. It's not a good feeling, especially when the song is not your vision of what it should sound like. I look at it like this, if they have to take something they didn't write...

I like this mix better. the drums seem to have a more modern "click" sound to them. Also, the guitars sit better and there is more clarity between the parts. Maybe because there is different or less reverb. There is still a market for this style, it's close to something like Iced Earth, but not...

We must have been typing at the same time. Are you going into a left stereo input and coming out no the left side of a stereo track? if you are you need to send the left stereo input to a mono channel and you will hear it out of both speakers.

Start anywhere you want. usually getting the rhythm tracks down first helps. It helps to have the drums and bass locked together so the song will have a general feel when you go to put the melody and leads down.

I agree the easiest way to do that is to copy the audio you want backwards, paste it where you want it then flip the clip.
