How do you slate video when you're recording direct?

If I weren't recording my keyboards directly into my multitrack recorder the handclap would be the way I do it. But unless I put up a room mic there won't be any sound from the clap on the audio recording to sync to. It is looking like I have to devote a track for just that and if I'm gonna do...

How do you slate video when you're recording direct?

I bought super cheap-o action cameras. I think I paid $50 each for four of them. I have been trying to 3D print some open cages for them because they're proprietary and only the housing that came with them will fit. Alternatively I could go real caveman and just tape them to mic stands or...

How do you slate video when you're recording direct?

All of those ideas would be fine if the action cameras I am using weren't so terrible audio wise. I don't mean bad quality I mean hardly audible. I haven't looked at the waveforms for the cameras yet, but after playing them back I doubt they will be very legible. I would need a significant hit...

How do you slate video when you're recording direct?

For single camera videos it will just be on a static tripod with my hands in the shot yes. Otherwise I might use up to three cameras on tripods and at least one of them will have my hands in the shot. Yes the sound will be audible in the room BUT (but but but) the cameras that I plan to use do...

How do you slate video when you're recording direct?

I plan on doing a lot of video with keyboards recorded direct to a multitrack. Without adding a microphone to my rig, how can I sync the audio with the video? I've considered playing a "clap" sound with one of my keyboards to get a nice spike but then there are no visual cues to help align the...

    Passive stereo to mono solutions

I think I will cross my fingers and give this a shot. It will have to wait a bit to try out because....reasons.

    Passive stereo to mono solutions

I followed only about half of what you are saying but it sounds like I can use any mono to stereo cable in reverse with safety and effectiveness. I have such cables on hand already if that is the case. (Is OP Z the teenage engineering sequencer synth? That's all I get from a google search on it.)

    Passive stereo to mono solutions

Hmmm, well full disclosure the sound source will be the left and right outputs (combined by headphones jack) from a keyboard. Not, as you are probably imagining a cell phone.

    Passive stereo to mono solutions

Those are similar instructions to what I have found online so far, but I don't see how this deals with the phase cancelation issues. Can you explain it to me?

    Passive stereo to mono solutions

I will try to nutshell this as best as I can. I have a stereo output that I need to send into a mono input. I am looking to sum the stereo channels into the mono device without losing anything to phase cancelation and without damaging the output of the stereo device. I have come across DIY...

Alesis io/26 What Software would you use?

I'm still shopping for a new laptop. Once I get one, I'll try reaper right away. Carl

    Just a sequencer?

I second this suggestion. I have a Roland MC500 myself and it's awfully powerful and rock solid. Carl

Alesis io/26 What Software would you use?

This thread is right on time. I just got the Alesis IO|26 and the Korg X50 for my 42nd Birthday. I was wondering if I should update the Cubase LE that comes bundled with it or shop around. I'm reading this discussion with great interest. Carl

    Ignore this

I agree that soft synths have no zazz. I don't use them at all. Carl

    Korg X50 vs TR61

It is my understanding that the only real differences between these boards is the lack of aftertouch and sequencer on the X50. Is that the ONLY differences other than cosmetic? Carl

Cheap weighted Keyboard/controler for Software Synths?

I will go out on a great limb and proclaim that I find the Privias to have the best action of any keyboard (other than a real piano) that I have ever played. Of course tastes vary and it's hard to defend a Casio product with a straight face. However, the keybed is not only lightweight but...
