Mix this: An original called "Second Best"

Here's a version, I really dig this song. Reminds me of Aqueduct and They Might Be Giants.

    Manslick - She's a dream

Very clear mix! Nice song too. The kick seems to suck the air out of it though, maybe an effect of compression?

Do tracks recorded ever sound slower on playback to you?

Happens to me too, some weird psychological thing I guess. Nowadays I try to find a comfortable tempo and add like 5bpm because I know it's gonna feel slower the next day.

    The wages of fear

Hey burgundy good to see you man! Yeah I’m listening a few days later and I think I just have the guitars too hot in general. Already reset my board though so I think I’ll live with it on this one, something to know for the next one. . .

Back in the game after 8 years...

The guitar that comes in around 1:08 doesn’t seem to have a lot of sustain. I don’t know if you can change that in the mix but it seems to take a bit from the energy of the track. I really like the vibe of the track though.

    Rode NT2A - Vocals + Guitar (Omnidirectional)

Not much mixing you can do when you only have the one track, but maybe you could use the amp eq to let the vocal through better. Maybe lowering the treble and/or presence would give the vocal more space.

Master Opinion, is it too squashed? too compressed? Dynamics?

It sounds good to me. Nice mix too.

Lowered a loud guitar and tuned a couple lines.

    The wages of fear

Thanks man! Yeah everything was a struggle haha. Maybe the hardest parts were getting the vocal and bass right. Took several days of attempts to get those sounding okay.

    The wages of fear

Something different this time, a sort of trucker song based on a movie I watched. :) Let me know what sticks out. . .

"Indie Rock Band" - New electronic Rock Song

As an indie rock fan, I can say this is a pretty good summary of indie rock.

    Outside

Thanks for your feedback guys, I'm glad the mix isn't the primary issue at least. I do love the sound of a dry kit and bass!

    mixing a bluegrass backing track

Sounds real nice to me, I don't think the layers are overwhelming at all. There are some occasional guitar squeaks that sound like they could be cleaned up a bit.

Philandering Fool : another guitar instrumental. How is the mix?

Yeah it seems a little wooly to my ears. Maybe you could try a low-mid cut in the drums? I’ve had this struggle before, I’m not sure what I did in particular to solve it though. Are the drums live or vst?

A tutorial on dealing with masking in mixes

This YouTube tutorial has been really helpful. I hit a plateau a while back (still getting out of it honestly) where I wasn’t able to get the clarity I wanted, and boosting eq was just making things worse. I started doing cuts as described in this video though and it’s helped me make things...

Do p-basses reject noise better than j-basses?

I got the pickups installed and the difference isn't night and day, but it is a lot better. With the stock "noiseless", I had buzzing coming up whenever I wasn't playing, even when holding the strings. But with the Fralins, it's pretty quiet as long as you're touching a string. The remaining...

Do p-basses reject noise better than j-basses?

Yeah I wish they had a device to help that, I’d be first in line. 😆

Do p-basses reject noise better than j-basses?

The mwjb aren’t easy to get in the US, so I ordered some split coils from fralin. Also got some copper tape and shielded the inside of the bass while I was waiting for the order to fill. The pickups just shipped, so I should be able to get them installed by the weekend. Pretty excited about...

Do p-basses reject noise better than j-basses?

I have the same issue Rob. I improved things only a little by replacing a ground wire, but I hadn’t thought about getting different pickups. I may try that, I am a little afraid though to spend the money and find no improvement. Do you remember what kind you got?
