thinking about all this analog stuff, I'm wondering if it is time to change the heads on my deck. Its nothing totally fancy. Teac a-160, basic deck, just rca's in, rca's out, and L+R 1/4 mic ins, nr, all that fun stuff. Is there a way by examination that I can tell the heads need to be changed...

well, im not a reel to reel user, yet. I would really like to start recording this way. I was wondering if anyone can tell me a good reel to reel deck that would be great for a beginner such as myself? and what are some things I might want to look out for when looking for a deck?

hey everyone, I have a vintage Teac A-160 tape deck I record with. I am using a behringer mixing board and RCA cables to hook it to my deck. I am using a sm57 mic and I place it about 150-200mm from the amp. I get a really good clean recording without distortion, but distortion is really dirty...
