This one's sort of an anthem.

Haven't been around in a while. Love for someone to listen to my music. Hard to tell about your own stuff, ya know? Feel free to offer positive comments or helpful criticism on all aspects from writing, performance, mixing etc. Thanks! BTW, bicycle love song is the name of the band, not the...

Where does all the drive space go?

I just did a new install of xp and on a 7.3 GB partition, I only have 2.45 GB of free space! When I open the contents of the partition, the biggest of three folders is "windows" and it's only 1.66 GB. "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files" each are under 300 MB. I should have around 5 GB...

    Motherboard and harddrive questions

Seems like all the recommended boards these days have onboard audio. Is this bad? Is firewire better supported on the board or PCI card...or is mobo firewire even available? The ASUS site doesn't mention it on the P4C800-E deluxe, but www.tomshardware.com says it's on there. What happened to...

    Found perfect neoprene for doors!

I've tried plain old foam neoprene strips (actually, it's not neoprene. It's epdm rubber. Which is what all foam type neoprene is really. You can't make pure neoprene lower than 40 durometer, which is WAY too stiff to compress with human force) in various thicknesses around 1/8". It works fine...

    Accessing data CD-RW locks-up computer

I back up my music related files to CD-RW and one of them will not open up. In fact, any time I try to access it, by shortcut to cdrom disc, explorer, or even if I boot the computer with it in the drive, the computer locks up. If I ctrl+alt+del, it says Explorer and Pcciomon- my anti-virus...

"ping" software to prevent timeout disconnect

Can anyone recommend something? I've tried a couple different internet speed booster things that had a ping function supposedly built-in. One wouldn't even boot up and one wouldn't ping. Frustrating. I'm using 98se. Thanks.

    Reverse wall skepticism

Reverse wall construction, as I understand it, is a double wall technique where you put your interior plasterboard on the OUTSIDE of the stud of the INTERIOR wall. Starting from the inside of your studio, you'd have STUD, plasterboard, space, stud, plasterboard. Normal double wall construction...

Difference between Sabian HH and HHX (and beginner advice)?

Is one considered better? All I can figure is HHx has more "projection," whatever the hell that means. I'm looking for all the basic cymbals- hats, couple crashes, ride, splash- strictly for recording, will never be gigged, but will hopefully cover some differents styles, mostly "rock"...

    Cheaper Neoprene

http://www.southernrubber.com/gasketmaterials.htm They have solid and "sponge" neoprene. The solid is available in several durometers and thicknesses from 1/16" to 1" thick, but when I went, they didn't have 1/2" in anything less than 60 durometer. The solid comes in 36" and 48" wide, sold by...

    Wierd message on startup- virus?

During startup, just after the pretty graphics logo "Windows 98" comes up, a black screen with something like "preparing to load Windows 9x" in DOS type print comes up, which I guess is normal. But further down the screen it says "C:\ HLLC.COOLGAME" and the next line says"bad command or file...

    ddrum 4 vs. Roland TD-10

Any input would be appreciated. I've read that ddrum may have better cymbals. I wish someone would explain the whole concept of how the ddrum 4 works. You can download new samples, right? So is this thing really a sampler? Is that essentially what the rolands are also, or are they some kind...

    Best sounds? Softsynths vs Modules

I just started playing with a drummer using a Yamaha DTexpress kit. We played a Roland DT5 at the store and realized how much better we could be doing. I'd like to improve our recordings by running his midi tracks through better sounds. In the interest of saving money, how comparable are...

    Apple? Yeah, right. LOL

I generally feel like the whole PC vs Mac thing is silly. To each his own. If you really like the Mac that much, go ahead, spend the extra money. BUT, DON'T PULL ALL THAT "SPEED DOESN'T COUNT" BULLSHIT! I'll let the following quote from the sonik bbs by someone who knows more than me explain...

Please help me check out a '67 ES-330.

Someone wants to trade me a '67 sunburst es-330 for my beloved '69 Honda s65 motorcycle. I checked the "blue book" and the value could be comparable, but I'm not sure what to look for as far as trouble spots, how to verify age, authenticity, serial #, etc. I haven't seen it yet and I'd like to...

Quick and easy question for anyone w/ 100w tube amp

Can you please look on the back near the AC plug and tell me how much power it consumes at 120V 60hz? I'm trying to figure how much current I need to allow for a hypothetical worst case scenario of four 100 watt amps  in my soon to be wired garage studio. I went to the store and the biggest...

"Data DR" scratch repair device works!!

I thought it was a gimmick but for $30 I figured it was worth a shot considering all the old ruined cd's I have. So far I've repaired about 7 cd's, 2 of which wouldn't even start at all, and a few had some songs that wouldn't start. Now they all play pretty well. These things were so bad you...

Why do some CD-R's not work in some players

I've never burned a coaster. I use adaptec easy cd creator and have never had a problem playing them in any player. Today I burned some from a different manufacturer- at least I think it's different, more on that in a minute- and it played fine in my computer, my new DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW player...
