there is intermitent noise on some of the faders of my m-308... other than mineral water alcohol, and q-tips, what else should I consider?

I have been given an M-308, however it is not yet in my possession. I am interested in the experiences that other M-308 users have had. do you like the eq's? how are the pre's? how would you describe its sound? what would you compare it to? I have read many good things about the 300 series...
