OK, I took it apart and it was the capstan belt and the motor. Sigh... oh, well. It appears to be a common problem with these old machines. Too bad.

I tried to start up my 644 Midistudio after 10+ years, but the capstan motor does not seem to start when the unit is powered on, there is no sound - not even a hum from the motor. The belt must be in place, because the capstan cannot be turned while the unit is powered up, but can be turned...

I understand that there is a high sensitivity on this board to threads like this. Sorry about that. I tried to delete it but do not have the privileges to do so. Maybe the administration could help out and remove it? Thanks, Hans Adamson
