Fostex G24s Reel to Reel player help - Everything works except play & record!

Hi SilverBall I realise this is a number of months after the last post but if the machine is back in a box or store-room awaiting help then I offer the below: A couple of possible causes I've found from experience. The first, and easiest, is that there may be a number of broken solder joints...

FOstex R8 reel to reel problem

Hi, When you say the tape is wiped clean, do you mean it's erasing the tape in play mode, or are you putting the deck into record and it's erasing but not recording? Cheers, Bryan

    USed Fostex R8 problems

Sounds like the cam that moves the pinch roller into position is either worn / broken or something related is out of adjustment - or something's fallen inside the machine and is jamming the mechanism. Bryan

Need info for the Fostex 4035

Hiya, The 4035 is only a remote control for the 4030 synchronisers. It won't work with anything else. The 4050 is an autolocator for B and E series machines, it will generate and read SMPTE, it also converts SMPTE to Midi Time Code for syncing recorded trackes with computers running midi...

    fostex e-8 / e-16

Yo, You sure they're the same part? E8 is quarter inch, E16 is half inch. G16 uses same as E16. G24 uses a quarter inch clamp with a machined metal spacer to take it out to 1 inch. Can get you part numbers if it helps - we got nothing in NZ so can't help with locating them sorry Bryan.

    Help need Fostex G16

Hi Carlos The signal that appears on 9 - 16 will disappear as soon as you plug an RCA plug into an input on one of those channels. Is there any aspect of 2nd mode you're not familiar? or all of it? I have a G24S with full manuals, would be happy to answer your questions... Cheers, Bryan

    E2 / E22

Anyone got service or operation manuals for the E2/E22 series of master recorders? Either for sale or online copies available for download would be cool... the Fostex store at Yahoo doesn't ship outside of the US. Nice for the rest of us.... :p Cheers.

    SMPTE on edge track?

SMPTE on edge track Aha!! Well Mr ex-kiwi-come-Aussie, I'm now in Brisbane.... I'm finding the heat here is beneficial for melting the wax in my ears... I've now moved to a Sony WAX-3348 digital multitrack :p Left my gear in NZ unfortunately. Going stir crazy!! I'm about to purchase a...

Fostex R8 Trouble -- Any Ideas?

I guess if you or I were a Fostex service rep then we'd be pushed to come up with anything better than what you got told.. Umm another possibility... Is the tape base thickness set properly in the system menu? Again, I'm only going by what the G24 is like... but as far as I know they're not all...

Fostex R8 Trouble -- Any Ideas?

Fostex R8 problem Umm, a bit of a shot in the dark here, but check all the buttons on the remote panel very carefully, and make sure that none of them are jammed in the on or down position... If you know what I mean. My G24S use to jam the reset button and so the tape time counter wouldn't...

    SMPTE on edge track?

Hey you. I'm finding that trying to record SMPTE timecode on to the edge track of a 1903 wax cylinder device results in the wax simply being gouged off the drum, rather than a nice square wave impression being recorded... Any suggestions? Also, since the cylinders are becoming rarer, I'm looking...

    Time code?

Well one important question, are the two machines designed to respond to synchroniser inputs? ie. External capstan control, serial transport etc... One of the machines you are intending to use must have this in order for it to respond to the synchroniser's capstan and/or transport commands.

    Time code?

Gees, I hope you're sitting down :) Timecode first appeared in 1967 as a solution to synchronise sound and picture on the 2" quad video recorders. It came about as a need to positively identify the absolute time reference of a piece of tape being edited. It is an 80 bit digital signal recorded...

Difference between Quantegy 456 and 457 tapes?

You can minimise the effects of print-thru by keeping the tape away from extremes in temperature and humidity. Most effective in reducing the APPARENT print-through is the technique of storing tapes in 'tales out' configuration. This means, at the end of the session, fast forward instead of...

    G24S Internal Sync Card

It almost seems Fostex only made 19 of these 8330 timecode sync boards. Does anyone have one or know where one is, that is available for purchase? Fostex 8330. Cheers.

    demagnetizing

If you want serious results you do it everyday. Chimps from the Amazon train up quite well and they're cheap to run. :Þ Seriously, do it regularly and make sure you slowly move the demagger away from your machine (at least 3 feet) before you turn it off. Unplugging your machine is not a bad idea...

Difference between Quantegy 456 and 457 tapes?

499 and 456 tapes are the same thickness. 499 has a higher energy coating on it thus the machine will most likely need recalibrating. You can, however, push the tape harder (higher recording levels) without seriously distorting, and that lovely warm saturation come through beautifully.
