the studio as a songwriting tool?

Okay, I've been having a lot of trouble writing songs lately, so I've just been messing around with my recording stuff...you know, laying down a random riff and just tearing it apart, tons of effects, etc., etc...now, some of these are starting to sound kind of half-decent. Once I've got...

Buy one of those removable hard-drive, disk, key things (you know, it looks like a stick with a USB connection on one end)...get the largest size you can find...the bigger the better since music takes up a lot of space...it's going to cost you for the larger drive, but it will be far less than...

    Should Tab Sites Be Legal?

Hey, I'm curious where you guys stand on this topic. I read an article a few days ago said that the MPA has declared tab sites "completely illegal." Two of the big sites - MxTabs & Taborama - have been taken down. So, what's your opinion?

    Setup Problems

If you run the output from the your computer back into your mixer, it will record all of your previous tracks onto the current track...which is the problem, I believe, that you are having. If your mixer doesn't have an Alt 3/4 bus, your best work around is to connect your speakers or headphones...

    Turning off the US-122?

I am using the US-122 interface with my laptop and I'm curious if there's a way to power-off the 122 without disconnecting it. Is this possible? I would like to have it ready whenever I need to record, but I don't want it to use unecessary battery-power from my laptop when it's just sitting...

    Why not standalone?

You can add a live bass and drum loops to both standalone and pc...it's a bit more complex with a standalone, but it can be done. Depending on how the standalone records (hard drive, flash memory, etc.) you can import your recordings to the computer for editing and mixing. Many units have a...

Behringer or PreSonus (USB v. Firewire)

On the PreSonus, you can't use both 1/4" inputs AND the XLR...whatever input is used bypasses the other...in other words, if you have a mic connected to the left input, you can't use the 1/4" input on the left side...same thing with the other side. The Behringer has more inputs and would allow...

    Monitoring MY Recordings

I usually move the mic to the middle of my room, a good distance from my monitors. I play back what I've already recorded through my monitors and start recording the next track. By moving the mic away from the monitors, it picks up very little, if any, of the sound. It helps to have a...
